How to Maintain a Healthy Mindset?

First: Learn to Change Your Thoughts

If we want to train our inner selves to return to a state of tranquility, we must constantly engage in self-reflection, observe our own thoughts, and make changes. In fact, for ordinary individuals to become enlightened, there needs to be a continuous transformation of thoughts. Intentions are the root of actions; when thoughts are pure, negative karma is not created. The “Bodhisattva Precepts” practiced by bodhisattvas are precepts of the mind, cutting off evil thoughts at their root.

The transformation of thoughts is the most fundamental change. When a person’s thinking changes, their behavior will naturally follow suit. The greatest power in life comes from this transformation of thoughts. As the saying goes, “with one thought of enlightenment, an ordinary person becomes a Buddha; with one thought of confusion, a Buddha becomes an ordinary person.” An ordinary person can transform into a Buddha, and a Buddha can also transform into an ordinary person. To attain brightness, purity, and enlightenment, one needs to transform their own thoughts and ideas.

This kind of transformation must come from self-reflection, from one’s own mindful awareness. Meditation can help us strengthen our mindful awareness and the power of self-reflection. With a calm mind and the ability to let go of the past, transformation can gradually be achieved.

Second: Do Not Dwell on Issues for More Than 30 Seconds

Being indecisive is not always due to difficulty in making decisions; many emotions can also lead to indecisiveness. For example, the emotion of anger. Anger is a negative emotion that everyone encounters, but it should not last more than 30 seconds; exceeding this time can be harmful to the body and, over time, very dangerous. Controlling one’s emotions is a way of maintaining health and also a path of self-cultivation and self-improvement.

Whether in Daoist, Buddhist, or Confucian thought, cultivation is a process of self-transformation that cannot be completed in a short time; it is a lifelong practice.

Each of us faces various difficulties and setbacks. Setbacks are one of the best forms of education in life. If life were smooth sailing from beginning to end, like a straight line, there would certainly be little to gain and comprehend in this life.
