Wake Up to Yourself : The Key to Happiness and Self-Improvement

Some things that you are unable to accomplish may actually be a form of protection from a higher power. Understanding this principle prevents unnecessary complaints and wasted emotions, as well as unnecessary anger. In life, everything has its predetermined course, and it’s essential to awaken oneself to comprehend these necessary truths. As the saying goes, “Life is not about surpassing others, but about surpassing oneself.” Before a person can awaken themselves, they must first realize the need to do so. Only by awakening oneself can one willingly make changes and actively improve. Ultimately, through personal growth and effort, one becomes increasingly independent and strong in real life. Just as the film “Farewell My Concubine” states, “A person must fulfill themselves on their own.” By waking up and fulfilling oneself, we can ultimately progress towards self-liberation and self-healing, and live life in a way that we truly enjoy.

Waking Up to Yourself, Letting Go of the Past

Everyone has a past that they’d rather not dwell on. Since time has passed and memories have faded, wise individuals learn to let go of the past. The more one clings to the past, the more difficult it becomes to live well, leading to increasing passivity and pain. Life should not be overly complicated, but it also shouldn’t be oversimplified. By awakening oneself and living in the present, we can make better judgments and choices, leading to a more reliable and fulfilling life journey.

Voltaire once said, “It is not the distant mountains that make people tired, but the grains of sand in their shoes.” Letting go allows us to continually strive for a better tomorrow. By awakening oneself, we gain self-awareness. Therefore, striving to awaken oneself is crucial to prevent unimportant people and events, especially those from the past, from affecting and burdening us. Often, it’s better to let go and move on rather than dwell on unnecessary matters. By striving to improve oneself and become stronger, we can truly live as Feng Zikai said, “Unperturbed by emotions, untroubled by love, unafraid of the future, and unconcerned with the past.” Living in such clarity, awakening oneself, will ultimately lead to a better and more fulfilling life.

Waking Up to Yourself, Lowering Expectations

The higher the expectations one holds, whether towards others or oneself, the greater the disappointment. Therefore, we must awaken ourselves to avoid setting excessively high standards and expectations. Learning to remain modest, composed, and humble while simultaneously lowering expectations allows us to face life in a relaxed manner. Truly intelligent individuals never force themselves but instead approach life with a relaxed state of mind, finding the best path. This allows them to use their intelligence and wisdom to achieve more with less effort, avoiding paying a high price for everything they do.

The poet Lu Lü said, “Treat yourself as soil, not as a pearl, or you will suffer being buried.” The essence of awakening lies in recognizing one’s own insignificance and fragility, allowing oneself to quietly improve and create. Heard in a saying, “The strong are strong because they awaken themselves.” Therefore, awakening oneself in a timely manner, striving to enhance cognitive abilities, learning to lower expectations, and diligently performing every task at hand, will undoubtedly open up more possibilities and bring better rewards in life.

Strength Lies in Self-Control

It’s challenging to awaken oneself, and even more so to exercise self-control. Despite encountering disappointment, loss, and failure, through self-control, we can reflect and awaken ourselves, enabling us to rise again after a fall. Clearly, the weak avoid returning to the place of their failure, lacking the courage to try again. Playwright George Bernard Shaw said, “Self-control is the chief element in self-respect.”

By awakening ourselves, managing our emotions, controlling our attitudes, and diligently building genuine strength and wisdom, we can create a resilient mindset and formidable strength through experiences and struggles. Ultimately, by relying on ourselves and becoming stronger and more independent, we can achieve success that is truly our own. An ancient saying goes, “Those who accomplished great things in the past not only had extraordinary talent, but also an unyielding will.” By awakening ourselves, becoming stronger and more independent, we can gradually grow and expand our lives. By awakening ourselves, achieving everything through our own efforts, we can continuously grow stronger. This approach ensures that our lives are filled with endless possibilities and hope.
